Check fixture:
An assembly of components used to locate and check the dimensional accuracy of a part or assembly using any combination of methods to collect variable or attribute data.
Attribute Gauge:
A gauge designed to check the acceptability of a part feature. Usually defined as GO (OK) or NO GO (Not OK). This type of gauge will not provide variable measurement data. This gauge may be part of a check fixture.
Variable Gauge
A Gauge designed to provide variable measurement data for a part feature.This type of gauge is best used when SPC data of a part feature is required. This gauge may be part of a check fixture.
Hand Apply Fixture
A permanent hand held Gauge to be used for the qualification of production parts. It is either a part of a Check fixture or an individual Gauge designed to check a specific detail, characteristic or feature.
Holding Fixture
A type of fixture to be used for the qualification of prototype, preproduction,or production parts and assemblies. It contains no attribute or variable checking feature and is intended to orient (locate) the part for inspection. The part orientation may be defined as being in “car position,” “assembly tool position,” or
“as built position”.
